Officially Retired from the Military

As of 010001NOV2011 or midnight on November 1st for the civilians out there, I am officially retired from the United States Army after a combined total of 8273 days or 22 years, 7 months and 24 days I am kind of a civilian again. I don’t have to cut my hair and I can grow a beard if my lets me. It came faster than I thought it would but I am proud to have served and glad to be on civvy street again at the same time.   Now I just have to go out and find a real job, great economy for that huh? 🙁

Oompa Loompa in My Garden

As my wife and I were harvesting the carrots from our garden yesterday we pulled up an Oompa Loompa. I am wondering if I should use this as my profile picture. The Oompa Loompa Song This is just a picture of my dog enjoying a beef rib bone

Spam Comments on my Blog

I get about 15-20 spam comments on my blog every day.   Most are the “Thanks for that Awesome posting, it saved MUCH time” variety.   They usually have a link in them to anything from Viagra ads, penis enlargement, cheap homeloans, to how to get student aid.   I am currently doing an experiment to see many of the “thanks for that Awesome posting spam I get as a percentage of all the spam I get.   My gut tells me that the “awesome posting” spam is about 50% of all the spam I get.   I have recieved 31 spam comments in the past two days and 18 … More after the Jump…

Posting Hiatus

No posts for the next week or so as I will be on vacation visiting historic places I can post about and probably lounging on the beach as well.

I have added a new RSS Feed subscription form in the sidebar.  I hope that people are interested enough in what I have to say to subscribe.  I have reproduced it below. Enter your email address: Delivered by FeedBurner

Beef with Google Books

Dr Beachcombing over at strange history sent me this post of his through email a few days ago and I decided to link to it. It regards the quality of the scans available for books in the Google Books service.  He takes particular umbrage with the poor quality of some of the Google scans of books they have up and also with the way they use IP mapping to determine if a user can even access the scan in the first place based on the geographic location of their IP Address.  Read his post first, my reply to his email is below: Beach, Sorry, it has taken me a couple … More after the Jump…

Does this Little Girl Look Like a Terrorist to You?

This was linked on Drudge Today.   Words Fail me.   How idiotic can our “security” procedures in America get? That little girl sure looks like a threat to me. UPDATE: The TSA has posted a response/explanation at their Blog. The best out of context logic in the post is this “Recognizing that terrorists are willing to manipulate societal norms to evade detection”. In the words of some political hack in Washington who I can’t remember, it “requires of suspension of belief” to think this little girl was a terrorist or some kind of threat.

Spam Comments on My Blog

An update to a previous post Spam Comments on my Blog.   I think I set a new personal record last night.   I got over 46 spam comments on my blog last night.   The vast majority included some garbage link in BBcode, which is not supported on a WordPress site.   WP only uses HTML code.   This is what the average spam looked like: NXwj1S ijecicpmubjv, [url=http://wgfbpiifvfrp.com/]wgfbpiifvfrp[/url], [link=http://hpgadeqvqdmq.com/]hpgadeqvqdmq[/link], http://xbgwsdgsxdaq.com/ NXwj1S ijecicpmubjv, [url=http://wgfbpiifvfrp.com/]wgfbpiifvfrp[/url], [link=http://hpgadeqvqdmq.com/]hpgadeqvqdmq[/link], http://xbgwsdgsxdaq.com/ I have not went down any of the referenced urls for fear of getting a virus on my home machine.   Any of my readers are more than welcome to try although I … More after the Jump…
