{"id":1614,"date":"2011-06-27T13:52:52","date_gmt":"2011-06-27T11:52:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/?p=1614"},"modified":"2011-06-27T13:55:45","modified_gmt":"2011-06-27T11:55:45","slug":"dazzle-camo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/2011\/06\/dazzle-camo\/","title":{"rendered":"Dazzle Camo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Mrs. Nora Holloway from the <a href=\"http:\/\/militarygear.com\/blog\/\">Military Gear Blog<\/a> (<strong><em>Opennes Note<\/em><\/strong><em>:\u00c2\u00a0 The blog links to an an online store so it could be subtle spam<\/em>)sent me an email a few days asking me to <a href=\"http:\/\/militarygear.com\/blog\/dazzle-camo-from-wwii-to-modern-day-battlefields\/\">share an article she wrote <\/a>concerning the history and possible future use of Dazzle Camoflage on military ships and vehicles. \u00a0 She posits that perhaps there may be a resurgence in the use of dazzle camo based on recent research showing it is marginally effective in low-tech environments. \u00a0 Dazzle Camo was used extensivley on ships in WWII but for some reason I highly doubt that it will make a comeback.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1618\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/dazzle_camo_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1618\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1618\" title=\"dazzle_camo_2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/dazzle_camo_2-300x293.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/dazzle_camo_2-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/dazzle_camo_2.jpg 429w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1618\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WWII Ship Dazzle Camo Schemes<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Painting and repainting military vehicles is expensive and time consuming. \u00a0 First off, the military does not use normal paint, it uses special paints that absorb chemical agents called Chemical Agent Reactive Coating (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tda.com\/Library\/docs\/Reactive_Coatings_Lit_Rev.pdf\">CARC<\/a>) that is 1 expensive, and 2, requires special equipment when painting with it. \u00a0 My platoon had to repaint our Bradleys in the mid-90&#8217;s and to get it done we had to wear chemical gear and use special respirators because CARC paint is extremely toxic until it cures. \u00a0 Secondly, I don&#8217;t know that a paint scheme that would perhaps cause an RPG to miss by 3.3 feet <strong>IF<\/strong> the vehicle were traveling at 55MPH provides enpough justification to repaint the military&#8217;s entire fleet of vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>I think research would have to show some great advantage of dazzle over current paint schemes to justify the expense of repainting. \u00a0 It is more likely that the funds required to repaint vehicles could be used more profitably to reset and repair vehicles used in previous deployments and make them available for futrue use. \u00a0 <strong>What do you think?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would like thank Mrs. Holloway for pointing me to the article though, it is intriguing to say the least.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Mrs. Nora Holloway from the Military Gear Blog (Opennes Note:\u00c2\u00a0 The blog links to an an online store so it could be subtle spam)sent me an email a few days asking me to share an article she wrote concerning&#8230;
