{"id":4340,"date":"2013-12-16T09:42:19","date_gmt":"2013-12-16T07:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/?p=4340"},"modified":"2013-12-16T14:50:27","modified_gmt":"2013-12-16T12:50:27","slug":"congress-makes-courageous-decision-to-cut-military-retired-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/2013\/12\/congress-makes-courageous-decision-to-cut-military-retired-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"Congress makes Courageous Decision to CUT Military Retired Pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the news:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/blogs\/ryan-defends-reduction-cost-living-adjustments-early-military-retirees_770921.html\">Ryan Defends Reduction to Cost-of-Living Adjustments for Early Military Retirees<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a stunning display of which segment of society politicians are really afraid of last week politicians in Washington agreed to cut military retired pay in an effort to offset the sequester cuts that they put in place just two years ago. \u00a0Unsurprisingly there has been <strong>absolutely zero<\/strong> talk about attempting to curb growth in other entitlement spending such as SNAP and TANF (welfare)being the two largest programs. \u00a0The logic behind it is clear. \u00a0There are more people receiving welfare than military retirees thus making welfare recipients a more powerful voting bloc.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4343\" alt=\"Military Retirement\" src=\"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Military-Retirement.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Military-Retirement.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Military-Retirement-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Military-Retirement-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Military-Retirement-644x483.jpg 644w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/>The numbers just for SNAP &amp; TANF<br \/>\nSNAP &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.statisticbrain.com\/food-stamp-statistics\/\">46,670,373 people or 14% of US population<\/a>\u00a0cost = $71.8 Billion annually<br \/>\nTANF &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/statisticbrain.com\/welfare-statistics\/\">12,800,000 people or 4.1% of US population<\/a>\u00a0cost = $131.9 Billion annually<br \/>\nBy contrast here are the numers for military retiress &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2013\/12\/12\/news\/economy\/military-pensions-budget\/index.html\">2,300,000 military retirees in the US<\/a> or roughly .7% of US population cost = $52.4 billion annually<\/p>\n<p>What is the difference between the two groups?
