{"id":3588,"date":"2013-03-22T18:22:12","date_gmt":"2013-03-22T16:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/?page_id=3588"},"modified":"2026-09-18T08:29:03","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T06:29:03","slug":"book-review-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/bio\/book-review-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Book Review Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I get quite a few requests for book reviews so I thought it might be a good idea to make my policy on book reviews available. \u00a0Generally I review only campaign, doctrinal, and unit histories, works on military and political theory,\u00a0or Science Fiction books. \u00a0That is because these are mostly the only types of books I read.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, I will entertain requests to review just about any kind of history book because insights into military operations or factors affecting military operations often have little or nothing to do with the mechanics of actually moving an army around on the field of battle and killing the enemy. \u00a0I agree with the <em>New History<\/em> to the point that societal factors play a large role in military history although I disagree about such factors level of decisiveness.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few types of books I will not review. \u00a0These are any books with an explicit bias. \u00a0I have in the past had requests to review a few revisionist books. \u00a0I have also had requests to review racist or pseudo-marxist histories. \u00a0I refuse such requests as they are not history, they are propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>I will consider requests to review types of fiction other than Science Fiction\u00a0and do have a couple of other people that post reviews on the site. \u00a0I will forward review requests for those type of books to the other contributors and let them take up the correspondence with you. \u00a0Lastly, I will give preferential treatment for review consideration to my brother Veterans of the United States military services.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I don&#8217;t know how else to emphasize this but <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em>I will\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em>reject requests to review historical fiction out of hand<\/em><\/strong><\/span>. \u00a0I think I need to repeat this as\u00a0I\u00a0continually get requests for such books. \u00a0I have yet to read<\/span> a historical fiction novel that I thought was worth the paper it was printed on. \u00a0That is not because these are not good books, but because I tend to get irritated when such authors fudge facts as they have to in order\u00a0to make their stories work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, since I am a truth in advertising guy. \u00a0I always preface reviews of books I get from authors and publishers with a disclaimer that I got the book for free from the publisher\/author and was not paid for the review.<\/p>\n<p>After all that intimidating stuff if you still want to request that I review one or more books don&#8217;t hesitate to email me at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:info@military-history.us\">info@military-history.us<\/a>. \u00a0I try to respond to every book review request within 1-2 days but it can take\u00a0as long as a week if I am really busy.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">To make things easier for all of us please submit review requests using the below form.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[contact-form-7 id=&#8221;5621&#8243;
