{"id":4556,"date":"2014-02-07T08:18:25","date_gmt":"2014-02-07T06:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.military-history.us\/?p=4556"},"modified":"2014-03-23T18:28:32","modified_gmt":"2014-03-23T16:28:32","slug":"taliban-capture-a-war-dog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.military-history.us\/2014\/02\/taliban-capture-a-war-dog\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban Capture a War Dog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/asia\/afghanistan\/10621473\/The-Taliban-claim-to-have-captured-a-US-dog-of-war.html\">The Taliban capture a British dog of war<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just before Christmas last year the Taliban in Afghanistan apparently captured a British War Dag and true to form have posted a capture video of it.<br \/>\n<object width=\"640\" height=\"360\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/Fhh1IZ33DTg?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"640\" height=\"360\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/Fhh1IZ33DTg?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object>Now that is going too far. \u00a0I wonder if they are torturing the dog and trying to get information out of it. \u00a0It would not surprise me if they were. \u00a0The dog appears to be a Belgian Malinois, one of the favorite breeds for working dogs because they are smart, diligent, and not easily distracted from their tasks. \u00a0There is apparently some confusion as to whether it is a British or American dog.<\/p>\n<p>As the article mentions, the Taliban have been extremely critical of the use of what they call &#8220;infidel&#8221; dogs in theater. \u00a0They cling to the somewhat esoteric claim that Islam holds dogs to be unclean.<\/p>\n<p>I hope the dog is recovered soon. \u00a0I had no working dogs on my FOB during deployment to Iraq but we did have some FOB dogs that were useful because they hated Iraqis and would go off every time one came near the FOB. \u00a0This was especially useful at night when they would try to get close to the walls and pitch hand grenades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Taliban capture a British dog of war Just before Christmas last year the Taliban in Afghanistan apparently captured a British War Dag and true to form have posted a capture video of it.
